The Current to Come & Fight Against Corruption

The Seconds, Minutes, Hours, Days ...Years are going constantly. Let's Utilize the Time for the upcoming generation.

'Free Anna Now'- Nation's New Chant

Me Anna Hu”,“Please Arrest Me”,“Anna Tum Aaage Bado Hum Tumare Sath Hai”- these were some of the key slogans that echoed in the capital and its adjoining regions on 16 August. Everyone from young to old participated in support of Anna Hazare. The participation of protesters is out and out apolitical in nature. It shows people’s anguish against a corruption bathed govt and its inability to fight it.

Looking at the massive protests against Anna Hazare’s arrest one can understand the importance people are giving to this agitation against Govt’s Lokpal Bill. It seems that the govt is in inescapable circumstances. By arresting Anna the govt has defaced its image further. After all what is the UPA govt afraid of? Is it the formation of the Lokpal Bill or the ever increasing popularity of Anna Hazare that cannot be entertained by it? Whatever may be the reason, it is very much clear that by arresting Anna Govt has done a blunder by detaining him. Govt treated Anna’a arrest as a‘painful duty’ citing that his arrest would help maintaining law and order in the country.

The UPA govt may provide a number of reasons but it fails to hide its 'nervousness’ and ‘panic’ . Never would have they expected that nation will stand for Anna in such a manner. What it fails to understand is that people of India are not only protesting against corruption but also against govt’s incompetence in providing a quality life fulfilling all basic necessities. Indians who are shouting slogans are full of anguish for lack of basic needs. From electricity, water, etc to inflation people are filled with anger and disgust. It is this emotion and anger which Anna Hazare has unfurled.

UPA to save its face levied baseless corruption charges against Anna Hazare. These charges did not budge Indians from showing support to Anna. Delhi, Mumbai, Ralegan Sidhi (Anna’s home town) everywhere people from poor to rich shout in unison today‘Free Anna Now’. The inevitable protests have reaffirmed the significance of the‘Lokpal Bill’ or it would have not amassed so much of public support.

As govt continues to convince Anna to leave jail, the 74 year old Gandhian remains defiant, demanding unconditional release to be allowed to go to JP Park for protests and fast.

After a long time India has witnessed such massive uprising, Anna Hazare has ignited the imagination of young and old alike. As the whole nation awaits imminent Anna’s release there are questions to be pondered upon- Can we call Anna Hazare the new age Gandhi? Are we as a nation ready for continuance of a non-violent protest or it will fizzle out? Govt vs. Anna- who will be victorious? Think over it.
